A SOMERSET dad who lost all his limbs in an electric shock has received a "life-changing" settlement - and says he will take his twin daughters on holiday.

Scaffolder Jamie Mines, 34, was thrown 13ft from a half-finished metal roof when 33,000 volts of electricity surged through a tin sheet he was holding.

The talented footballer spent 10 weeks in intensive care supported by then-girlfriend Harley Ware, 26, and their twin daughters Savannah and Isabella.

A year after suffering the devastating injury in December 2016, Jamie was back behind the wheel of a car - and now has prosthetic limbs which help him to live a fulfilling life.

Jamie said: "This result means me and my family can move on with our lives.

"It's been astonishing how quickly this has happened but it's such a relief to have this kind of support.

"I've got my sights set on being a Paralympic athlete.

"I'm still young and used to play semi-pro football, and I've never stopped wanting to get back on the pitch.

"That kind of ambition can cost money as well as time.

"But in the shorter term I'll be taking the family on a lovely holiday."

In October 2017 his former firm, Boundary Scaffolding Ltd, was fined £80,000 and its director Jonathan Griffiths-Clack was handed a six-month sentence, suspended for 12 months.

Jamie is trying to get back to his former levels of fitness, and earlier this year said: "I do 20 minutes cycling, and I also work out my shoulders, chest and back.

"I also do a fair bit of hiking - I've walked up Cley Hill at Longleat a few times, and I do plan on walking up Snowdon at some point.

"Sports has been my life for such a long time.

"I'd like to be a Paralympic runner one day.

"I think now with Pistorius locked up, I could even win the gold."

He lives alone in Frome after splitting amicably from Harley as he did not want to be "a burden".

Determined Jamie cooks for himself, cleans the house and looks after his daughters regularly.

The settlement was negotiated by Frances Letchford of medical and personal injury specialists Enable Law.

Ms Letchford said: "This was a very sad case for all involved, however the team at Enable Law have such diverse experience and expertise that we were able to bring this claim to settlement within 17 months.

"It's very pleasing Jamie can now move on with his life."
