A SIX-year-old ‘superhero’ who is fighting through a tumour the size of a satsuma, two major brain operations and six weeks of chemotherapy could be off to Disneyland after the community rallied round to raise money.

Rhys Rodway is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy after recently being diagnosed with a brain tumour – a stage 4 diffuse midline glioma.

First, he had to undergo brain surgery, firstly to enter a shunt in his head to release the pressure on the brain, then a second major surgery shortly after.

Chantelle Jerram, Rhys’ aunt, said: “The second was a 10-hour surgery on his brain to try and remove the tumour.

“They took a tumour the size of a satsuma out of his little head.

“In the last three weeks, our family’s brave little superhero has undergone countless MRI scans without a fuss. He has been so brave and an inspiration to everyone that knows him.”

Rhys is currently in Bristol with mum Kirsty and dad Dave for further treatment.

Chantelle added: “They are not going to be a normal family again for a long time, so as soon as the six weeks is finished, we are raising money so the family can have some time together to make some lasting memories for them all to hold on to.

“We would love to raise enough money to send our superhero to meet the real superheroes at Disneyland Paris and give him and his two sisters memories that they will treasure for a lifetime.

“The family have been through so much already, we would love for them to have an amazing experience.”

So far, the family has raised £4,700 to send Rhys and sisters Rhianna and Aliyah, but they are still short of their £6,000 target.

To try and give them a final fundraising boost, the family is also organising a mini children’s festival, Rhys Fest.

The event is being held on Saturday, September 8, at The Choughs in Chard.

The fundraiser will run from 1pm with a raffle at 3pm to try hit the target. There will also be games, stalls, music, face painting, food and more.

Reece’s uncle, Craig Jerram, added: “Our family is so overwhelmed with the generosity and support you have all showed our special little superhero.

“We are getting close to our target but still a long way to go. Thank you so much for all your help, please keep sharing our page to help him make some lasting memories for them all.”
