IF you've been enjoying the prolonged heatwave, get ready for the storm after the calm.

Apparently we can expect the wettest summer day in Somerset and across the South West this year on Sunday, August 5.

A torrential downpour is set to bring us 1.7in of rain that day.

But it seems we'll be getting off lightly compared to other parts of the UK - the poor Scots could get more than 3in five days later.

Often, what follows a period of heatwaves is a series of thunderstorms that signal a break in the atmospheric pressure.

Chard & Ilminster News:

The deluge has been forecast by wood burning stoves and flue company Glowing Embers, who have drawn up this weather forecast map.

They’ve collated 30 years’ worth of data to discover when, statistically, the UK can expect its wettest day of the summer.

The wettest day naitonally could be August 5, with an average rainfall of 2.1in.
