FOUR dogs have been seized from a property in Chard after a video was shared on social media showing a dog being abused.
Police were called at 4.30pm yesterday (Monday, July 2) after the video appeared online showing a young girl throwing a dog at a wall.
RSPCA were also called after concerns about the animal's welfare.
A spokesman for the police said: "We were made aware of a social media posting showing alleged cruelty against a dog yesterday (Monday) at about 4.30pm.
"We attended an address in Chard to reports of alleged animal cruelty.
"Four dogs were seized from the property and the incident has been referred to the RSPCA."
The video was widely shared on Facebook, with many people describing the footage as 'disgusting'.
A spokesperson for the RSPCA said: “We are aware of this issue and understand the dogs have been taken into police care.
"We are so grateful to people who report suspected animal suffering to us and we would like to reassure people we will always look into and, if necessary, investigate any complaints made to us about animal welfare.”
