A NEW fun day celebrating the armed forces has raised a triple figure sum to help veterans.
Organisers from the Chard branch of the Royal British Legion enjoyed beautiful weather and strong attendance for the inaugural Chard Armed Forces Community Fun Day on Saturday, June 23, at Jocelyn Park.
Britain’s first disabled strongman, Chard-based Gary Clarke, opened proceedings before stalls, exercise challenges and live music continued through the afternoon.
Cathie Morrison, one of the event organisers, said: “For the first one, it was extremely hot and it went extremely well.
“We haven’t got the final figure yet. It was at £600 to £800 with donations, raffle tickets, and pitch money.”
Money raised on the day is being given in support of Dunkirk House and Somerset Legion House.
Cathie added: “We had 23 raffle prizes donated by different attractions.
“All the amusements and stalls were good, and we had a lovely atmosphere on the day.
“We are hoping to do it again next year.”
