WORK has been completed on accommodation for 510 workers on the Hinkley Point C site - a precinct that is equivalent to the largest hotel-style development in Europe.

The facility currently provides en-suite accommodation and recreational facilities for 510 workers, and when the second site is complete the accommodation blocks will total 1,500 bedrooms, in 44 buildings on two sites.

The second site, Sedgemoor Campus, is made up of 986 en-suite rooms in 29 blocks – and will be built in three phases on the site of a former cellophane factory in Bridgwater. The 30 strong Laing O’Rourke team has already installed 23 of the 29 blocks.

The new campus features 15 accommodation blocks, along with an amenity building comprising a reception, restaurant, retail, internet room, bars, TV rooms and gym facilities, which was all built within 14 months.

350 car parking spaces and two 5-a-side football pitches, which can be used as multi-use games areas, are also complete.

On reaching the delivery milestone, project leader Scott Palmer, said: “Delivering high quality facilities for those working at Hinkley Point C, has been achieved through a carefully coordinated offsite manufacturing programme, and the efforts of everyone across our supply-chain. The team should be very proud of what they’ve achieved.”
