FIRE destroyed two acres of gorse on Exmoor in what was believed to have been a deliberate blaze, firefighters say.
Strong winds fanned the flames causing fire to spread on Dunkery Beacon this afternoon (Thursday, May 5).
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called to the incident shortly before 1.45pm.
A fire service spokesman said: “Fire appliances from Minehead fire station were mobilised to a report of a fire involving gorse at the above location.
“Crews confirmed approximately two acres of gorse was well alight with flames being fanned from strong winds.
“The cause of the fire was believed to be deliberate. The fire was on National Trust land.”
Firefighters used one hosereel jet and beaters to tackle the flames and Exmoor National Park rangers and a wildlife pump from Porlock also attended.
