AN elderly man has died after collapsing at The Cerdic pub in Chard. 

Paramedics were called to the pub at around noon today (February 17) after an elderly man collapsed.

The pub closed its doors while paramedics treated the man but he sadly died.

A spokesman for J D Wetherspoon, said: "An elderly customer at the Cerdic passed away in the pub. 

"He collapsed at approximately noon today and paramedics were in the pub. 

"The pub closed and its customers were asked to leave so that the paramedics could treat the man in private."

Paul Williams, area manager for J D Wetherspoon, said the man had died of a suspected heart attack. 

"Sadly I can confirm an elderly gentleman did pass away in the pub of a suspected cardiac arrest this afternoon. 

"Our condolences go out to his family and friends at this difficult time. 

"The pub will be reopening at 6pm."
