HOLYROOD Academy are celebrating a record number of A* grades in this year’s A level results, with good scores across the board.

Pupils at the Chard school were in at 8am on Thursday (August 17) to pick up their results, and staff are now enjoying the record results in Chard.

Matthew Collins, the school's headteacher, said: "We are delighted with our results this year.

"What is particularly pleasing is that a record number of A* grades were achieved with more than a third of all grades being A* - B grades.

"These top grades mean some of our students have met the demanding entrance requirements to study at some of the best Universities in the country.

"We also take great pride at Holyrood in providing opportunities for our students so that they develop into well rounded individuals who are well prepared for later life."

Mrs Seib, the head of 6th form, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the results. That is down to the hard work of staff and students alike, and opens the door to exciting opportunities."

Some of the school's individual successes have also been highlighted by Mr Collins.

Alice Bindon achieved A*A*A grades plus an EPQ (extended project qualifications) grade A* going to Exeter University to read Biological Sciences.

Lorena Hall will be going to Bristol University to read Geography after she got A*AA.

Fraser Lewis got A*ABC grades for his four A Levels, plus an A grade EPQ. He will be heading off to Southampton University to read Mechanical Engineering.

Nicholas Liggins' A*AA grades plus EPQ grade A* mean that he will be going to Southampton University in September to read Civil Engineering.

Leila Salter is going to Bath University to read Chemical Engineering after she got A*AA grades plus EPQ grade A.

Lauren Winch's A*AA grades mean that she will be going to Edinburgh University to read Fine Art.

Mr Collins added: "The vast majority of pupils are doing exactly what they want to do next.

"We are just so proud of what so many students have achieved.

"It is down to the hard work of students, and the teachers that taught them.

"We have had some fantastic outcomes. We got more A*s than we have ever had, and some of these are just unbelievable.

"The results were thoroughly deserved by this group of students and are testament to their attitude and hard work over the last two years.

"I would also like to thank the teaching staff for the incredible amount of work they have put in to supporting this group of students.

"We intend to continue to grow the sixth form at Holyrood in the next few years both in terms of the number of students we attract and the number of subjects we can offer and we are very much looking forward to many more successes in the future."
