TWO men have been arrested after a lorry with a trailer was seen leading a car chase through Chard and refusing to stop for police.

Police vehicles were damaged in the pursuit and one officer ended up in hospital.

A police helicopter was also mobilised to help with the incident, which took place at the weekend.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset police said: "The low-loader failed to stop for police in Millfield, Chard, at about 4.15pm on Saturday, August 12.

"Two police vehicles were damaged as officers continued to attempt to detain the driver, with support from the police helicopter and other specialist units.

"One officer required hospital treatment for an arm injury and was subsequently released."

Following the incident, a police investigation began and two people have since been arrested.

The Avon and Somerset Police spokesman added: "A 19-year-old man arrested in Silver Street, Chard, at 3.10pm on Sunday, August 13, was later released under investigation.

"A second man, aged 39, has since been arrested in the Essex area in connection with the incident and remains in police custody."
