YOU may have to work longer than you thought following an announcement by the Government.
An estimated six million people in their early 40s will now have to work an extra year before picking up their state pension.
The Government has announced that it is increasing the pension age to 68 in 2039 - rather than 2046 as was originally planned.
If you're currently aged between 39 and 47, then you're going to be affected.
Work and Pensions Secretary David Gauke said the government had decided to accept the recommendations of the Cridland report, which proposed the change.
Men and women will be affected equally, as the State Pension Age will have been equalised by then.
The change will affect those born between 6 April 1970 and 5 April 1978.
