CHARD’S eighth annual skate jam and community day is coming to the town this weekend.

The event, which is organised by young people’s charity StreetSpace, has been held every year in Henson Park since its inaugural event in 2010.

Ryan Doeller, from StreetSpace South Somerset, said: “This is the eighth annual skate jam and community day and we are excited about the many activities that will take place at the community event, including skate jam, a bonfire, battle tag archery, a car show, live bands, stalls, a raffle and inflatables.

“We are thankful that once again that the Chard Town Council has agreed to partner with us. We have a core team of StreetSpace volunteers who have worked hard to make this fun and exciting family day happen.”

New to the event this year will be battle tag archery, they will have six live bands and a “crazy and interesting” car show.

The event is being held at the skate park in Henson Park on Saturday, July 15, in support with local businesses and a grant from Starbucks Youth Action Fund.

Ryan added: “There will be lots of activities and stalls including Fire and Rescue Service, Poppe Inn Carnival Club, The Watch Project, Forefront Community Church, Jay’s Bushcraft, Lizzie’s handmade jewellery and Sam’s Funky Fun.

“There will also be the ever popular Sk8 Jam for BMX, skaters, scooters and in-line skaters. There will be a £2 entry fee for entry into the sk8 jam.

“Come down and join us for a fun packed day.”

The day will run from 10am to 5pm and will help raise funds for StreetSpace which works with young people across South Somerset.

The project works primarily with young people that are not in contact with existing youth provision. The project works through regular contact and informal activities with the young people to enhance their personal, social and spiritual development.

The charity has been working for more than ten years with fundraising and training.
