A CHARD woman whose disabled son and ill mum rely on her for transport was woken up in shock after heartless thieves broke into her home and stole belongings, including her car, before destroying the vehicle in a vicious arson attack.

Lisa Jackson, who lives in Auckland Way, was left ‘in tears and a state of shock’ after she woke up last Monday to find burglars had broken in through her back window and taken an array of beloved items from the home, before stealing her car keys and driving off in her bronze Renault.

Mrs Jackson took to social media to appeal for help re-uniting her with the stolen belongings.

She said: “Please help. I’ve woken up yesterday morning at 4.45am to find that we have been burgled. (They) have stolen loads of things from my home but not only that, they have stolen my car. They broke in through the back window.”

Mrs Jackon’s son, Thomas, relies on the vehicle for transport as he is disabled and has a heart condition which means he could collapse at any time.

She also appealed to the thieves to return the car, adding: “What you don’t know is my mum was rushed into hospital last Monday seriously ill until Friday, when I was able to bring her home. Also it’s what we need in an emergency for Thomas.”

Also taken from the Jackon’s home were Thomas’ iPhone 6+, Beats headphones, an old Samsung Galaxy HD phone, a speaker mobile, a watch that Thomas received as a 13th birthday present, an Adidas phone case which was made with Thomas’ name on it, and a handbag, which was later found in the Jocelyn area.

Despite the post receiving hundreds of shares, Mrs Jackson’s car was only found in the early hours of Tuesday morning after it had been completely destroyed by fire in a field off Brutton Way in what is believed to be an arson attack.

Mrs Jackson said: “Last week my mum was rushed into hospital on Monday at 9.30am with pneumonia and suspected sepsis. I have spent all week at Musgrove and then managed to get her home on Friday. I have been looking after her all weekend and still am, and to wake up to this is a living nightmare.

“It had Thomas’s blue badge in the window and was parked in a disabled bay outside my home, so they knew it was for a disabled child.

“They stole loads of stuff; an iPhone which was my son’s in case he needed me because of his conditions, a gold bracelet that my husband wanted to hand down to him, Beat headphones, the list goes on.

“The watch was special because at times in the beginning we didn’t think he would become a teenager.

“For my son it’s a life-saving car as he can have a collapse at anytime due to his heart.

“For my mum if she was still in hospital I wouldn’t be able to see her and same as my son, when he was admitted a few weeks ago I would have had to call an ambulance.”

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset police said: “We’re appealing for witnesses following a burglary at a property in North View Terrace, Chard, which happened between 10.30pm on June 18, and 4.45am on June 19.

“Laptops, a mobile phone and a bronze coloured Renault Scenic, registration YX60 TNL were stolen.

“We’ve carried out forensic enquiries at the property and are reviewing CCTV from the area to try and identify the offenders.”
