A CHARD man who allegedly drove a car towards a group of people, clipping a female on her arm with his wing mirror has appeared in court accused of dangerous driving.
Phillip Brown was at the wheel of a Renault Clio when he was said to have driven it towards a group of three people, then turned around and drove at them again, allegedly coming into contact with the left elbow of the complainant.
The 22-year-old defendant, of Halcombe, pleaded not guilty to driving a vehicle dangerously during the incident in Tatworth Road in Chard on December 29 last year.
Prosecutor Christine Hart said that fortunately no injury was caused to the complainant but said Brown had allegedly shown a “deliberate disregard for the safety of others”.
Brown elected to stand trial at Taunton Crown Court and the magistrates adjourned the case until July 24 when he must appear before a pre trial hearing there.
In the meantime he was released on conditional bail on the understanding he does not contact the complainant and named witnesses directly or indirectly.
