TRANSPORT Secretary Chris Grayling paid a visit to Ilminster to speak to Yeovil MP Marcus Fysh about plans to fully dual the A303 and A358.

Mr Grayling visited to the MP yesterday afternoon (April 27).

Mr Fysh said: “I have been pushing for this important project because of the boost it will give to Yeovil, Ilminster, Chard and Crewkerne’s shops and businesses, as well as making it easier for people to get around for work and leisure.

“The government is spending £500million on the first sections that touch the Yeovil constituency – the A358 from Ilminster to Taunton and the Ilchester to Sparkford section – and work on the project is well under way.

“It is because of this and the government’s other sensible plans for a secure future for the Yeovil area that people should vote for Theresa May on June 8.

“She is the only choice for strong and stable leadership as we look to get the best possible deal for Britain.”

Mr Grayling said: “We need Theresa May to give us strong leadership for Brexit and to deliver us the strong economy we need to deliver important infrastructure improvements on key routes like the A303.

“Marcus Fysh has been biting at my ankles for some time to ensure that the Ilminster Bypass is the stretch that follows on for full dualling next.

“I see the A303 corridor dualling as one of the nation’s key strategic road projects.”

Mr Fysh and Mr Grayling were joined by Christopher Le Hardy, the Conservative candidate for the South Petherton and Islemoor division in the Somerset County Council elections on Thursday May 4.

He will be up against UKIP's Antony Clarke, Adam Dance for the Liberal Democrat's and Paul Sellers.
