A WOMAN has been airlifted to Southmead Hospital with injuries after a crash on the A303.

The road was closed from around 5pm until 11.20pm last night, following the crash between a car and a lorry.

Firefighters, ambulance crews, police and the air ambulance all attended, and the woman had to be cut free from the car.

Dorest and Somerset Air Ambulance attended, but had difficulty landing because of the weather.

The charity also sent its critical care car, who went with the woman to Southmead in the search and rescue helicopter, which had been deployed.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at 5.12pm last night by a member of the public to reports of a collision near the Eagle Tavern between a car and a lorry.

"A woman was rescued from her car and was airlifted to Southmead Hospital with two broken legs and a suspected broken pelvis.

"Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

"The road was reopened by around 11.20pm."
