A YELLOW warning is in place for the whole of Somerset this morning as drivers and pedestrians are warned to be wary of dangerous ice.

The warning from Met Office said: "Ice is expected to form during Monday evening and overnight into Tuesday leading to difficult driving conditions on untreated roads and slippery conditions on pavements."

The chief forecaster's assessment added: "Showers will affect many parts of the UK during Monday, with some continuing overnight and into Tuesday morning, when temperatures will also fall below zero in some areas, bringing a risk of ice.

"The showers will fall as rain, sleet and hail, but as snow over hills, where several centimetres of snow may accumulate, and locally to lower levels where heavier showers occur."

In their south west summary for the rest of the day, Met Office said: "Mostly dry with sunny spells at first, but with showers and spells of rain expected during the afternoon.

"It will turn increasingly windy by the end of the day, perhaps with gales near exposed coasts, and continue to feel chilly."

The maximum temperature is set to reach around 10C, before falling to a minimum of 3C overnight.

Tomorrow's forecast said: "Rain spreading north-eastwards through the morning, then becoming dry in the afternoon with some sunshine in the west by evening where winds will increase again."

The temperature is set to peak at around 11C.
