TWO people were treated for smoke inhalation following a kitchen fire at a cottage in Buckland St Mary last night.

Firefighters from Taunton, Ilminster and Chard were sent to reports of smoke issuing from a kitchen on Rackley Lane at 8.25pm yesterday evening (Monday, February 20).

Crews arrived at the detached cottage and found the kitchen was heavily smoke-logged.

They set about investigating the source of the smoke using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and two thermal imaging cameras.

The firefighters found the fire had started from a cooker and clothing was involved.

The cooker was completely destroyed, the kitchen suffered heat damage and the rest of the property had smoke damage.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to ventilate the property. The cause of fire was deemed to be accidental."

Two occupants of the cottage were treated at the scene by Ambulance personnel for the effects of smoke inhalation.
