A MAN has been arrested near South Petherton on suspicion of dangerous driving, theft and drug offences after a police chase through the village.

He was spotted in the St Michael's Garden area in a car shortly before 7pm last night (February 16).

Officers tried to stop him but he drove away from them.

They later tracked him down to a property in the West End view area of the village.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police: "A man was arrested last night after failing to stop for police in Somerset.

"The man was spotted in the St Michael’s Garden area of South Petherton in a car shortly before 7pm.

"When officers tried to stop him he drove away from them.

"A short while later the man left his vehicle but was found in a property in the West End view area of the village.

"The suspect was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for a police officer, dangerous driving, theft and drugs offences.

"He’s been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

"We’re keen to hear from anyone who was in South Petherton last night who may have information to help our enquiries."
