FITNESS fans who use the Cricket St Thomas Leisure Club can now benefit from much improved fitness gym and exercise studio.

It's all thanks to redevelopment work carried out over the quiet Christmas period.

The re-modelled facilities were officially opened last Wednesday, February 8, by president of Chard Rotary Club, Barry Gibbs.

Mr Gibbs was accompanied by his wife, Claire, president of Chard Rotary’s ladies section the Inner Wheel.

Additional space has been created by relocating the snooker and games room, moving the adjoining exercise studio to the home of the old fitness gym and utilising the vacated space to create a new gym.

Long-time Tatworth member John said: "The old gym used to feel cramped with limited space between the aerobic and weights machines.

It’s much better now and I especially like the large free weights area.”

Club manager, Russell Gage who had been pushing for the changes for some time, said: “We are getting a great reaction from members and new visitors that come to take up our free day pass offer.

"We’ve also benefitted from the current closure of the Cresta Pool in Chard which has encouraged people to check out what we have to offer.

"Members especially like the fact that our pool is adults only and a more relaxing environment than the public facilities locally.”

A brand new sauna was fitted in November and the club has also purchased 10 new bikes to enable cycle spin classes to be offered soon.

You can try out the facilities for free until February 24 with the current free day pass offer.
