TWO men have appeared in court facing an allegation of being involved in the supply of class A drugs in Chard along with obstructing the police.
Akemm French, 23, of Downham Way, Bromley, Lewisham and Javal Devante Welch, 19, of Cator Street, London, were brought before Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil in custody after being arrested.
They were both jointly charged that on February 2 at Axminster Road in South Chard they had in their possession a quantity of “crack” cocaine (class A) with intent to supply it.
They were also jointly alleged to have wilfully obstructed a police constable in the execution of his duty at Chard Road in Tytherleigh on the same date.
Neither defendant entered any pleas to the offences and the magistrates said the case was so serious that they must be sent to Taunton Crown Court to stand trial.
They adjourned the case until March 6 when they must appear before a pre trial hearing at Taunton.
In the meantime they were both remanded in custody after an application for them to be released on bail was refused by the Bench.
