A YELLOW weather warning of snow and ice is in place across the county.

The Met Office issued the warning to be in place from 12.05am this morning until 11.55pm later tonight.

The chief forecaster said: "Showers of snow, sleet and hail will continue, particularly through the first part of Friday.

"Two to four cm of snow may affect some low lying areas while high ground may see locally five to ten cm.

"Ice is also likely to affect untreated surfaces. A combination of snow and ice may lead to the risk of disruption with difficult driving conditions and expect longer journey times."

This morning will be cold around 2-3 degrees Celsius, warning to 5 degrees throughout the day.

There will be some sunny spells from 9am until 11am and again later this afternoon around 3-4pm.

The evening drops to 2 degrees Celsius around 9pm and stays that way until tomorrow morning.

Strong winds will be blowing throughout the day, gradually easing off this evening.
