AN OUT-OF-CONTROL car has rolled down a hill and crashed into West Chinnock School causing severe damage to the wall.

The crash happened early this morning, before any parents or pupils had arrived.

Liz Stiddard, headteacher at West Chinnock School said: "We think what happened is a handbrake has broken and a car has rolled backwards down the hill and into the wall.

"It was so early in the morning that no-one was around so luckily no-one was hurt.

"We are waiting for someone to come out and have a look at the damage.

"The pillar and the wall hve to be done and the gate as well. The pillar is leaning against the old porch at the moment but we don't know if there is any damage to that yet."

Police were called at 8.15am to the school on Scotts Way after reports of a crash.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at 8.15am to reports of a car rolling down a hill and crashing into a school.

"Officers arrived at the scene and discovered that the car had crashed next to the boundary wall by the Victoria building at the school.

"Vehicle recovery has been arranged and insurance documents have been exchanged."
