A358 Chard Road in Tytherleigh near South Chard closed after serious crash

ONE person has been hospitalised and two others left in a serious condition after a lorry, a van and a car crashed near South Chard.

Four people were initially reported as having serious injuries, although one man has been confirmed as having an arm injury which is not life threatening or life changing.

The other three people have serious injuries, and one has been rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance.

An ambulance spokesman said that they were called just after 3.30pm to the three vehicle crash.

Three ambulances are on the scene, as well as a paramedic officer a BASICS doctor and a Great Western Air Ambulance.

A Devon and Cornwall police spokesman said: "Emergency services were called to the scene of a road traffic collision on the A358 Chard Road at 3.30pm, near Tytherleigh.

"The three vehicles involved are believed to be a car, a lorry and van.

"Serious injuries have been reported to two men and two women, but it is not known at this time if the injuries are life threatening or life changing, nor in which vehicle they were travelling.

"The road has been closed to allow emergency service access and recovery, and traffic is expected to be slow moving for some time.

"Drivers are advised to avoid the area for the time being."

The crash is on A358 near the junction with Storridge Lane.
