FIREFIGHTERS helped rescued a distressed cow stuck in a slurry pit.
The animal was three-quarters submerged when crews arrived at the incident in Barn Lane, Crewkerne at 10.30am today (Saturday, October 1).
A specialist team called out from Poole was not needed in the end as fire crews from Crewkerne and Martock assisted the farmer with ropes and lines and a telehandler.
They secured the ropes and lines around the animal and with the farmer's help were able to walk the cow to safety and out of the slurry pit.
Duty of care was left with the farmer.
