FORMER Somerset schoolgirl Maddie Hinch is making all the headlines this morning as the standout performer in Team GB women's hockey Olympic triumph.

Goalkeeper Maddie, 27, saved three penalties and did enough to make another miss a fourth in a dramatic final against Holland last night.

Team GB won 2-0 on penalties following a nail-biting 3-3 draw in regular time.

Now many celebrities have been tweeting their support for the former King's College student.

Broadcaster Jeremy Vine tweeted: "Eight matches and eight wins and GOLD for our hockey women #Brilliant" adding later: "Shame Hinch wasn't around to defend that bathroom wrecked by @RyanLochte #GBHockey"

In a similar vein shadow home secretary Andy Burnham said: "Forget Joe Hart. Think Everton should sign Maddie Hinch. Team GB Women's Hockey absolutely brilliant."

Radio DJ and former X-Factor presenter Dermot O'Leary got in the act, tweeting: "Well that was the most life affirming Friday night in a while congrats @_GBHockey @MaddieHinch for Pres...#youshallnotpass."

It was an amazing achievement that has clearly captured the nation's hearts. Well done Maddie!
