STAFF at a South Petherton care home are celebrating after being given a £2,000 grant from the parish council.

Parish councillors Adam Dance, Chris Hockey and Courtney Salway presented the cheque to staff and residents at Burnworthy House on Monday.

The grant has been awarded to the care home to support with the development of their sensory garden.

Burnworthy House manager Jackie Howells thanked the council.

She said: “On behalf of the residents and staff, I would like to say thank you to everyone at South Petherton Parish Council.

“This grant will greatly benefit the residents at Burnworthy House, who are very fond of the garden and outdoor space.

“We are so hopeful that the project will mean that we can hold more events for the local community here in South Petherton.”

The Somerset Care Group chairman, Chris Davies, was also on hand at the care home to thank the parish council for their generosity and support.

In June, Burnworthy House took part in National Care Home Open Day and was supported by the Army, who volunteered their spare time to help with the project.

Staff and residents at Burnworthy House have already set their sights on a pergola with a roof, so that the care home residents can benefit from its use all year round.

Colourful and fragrant flowers will be planted to stimulate the senses, along with hanging wind chimes for relaxing sounds.

Due to the size of the grounds of Burnworthy House, staff and residents are keen to open up their gardens and hold more events for the local community.
