Cllr Sylvia Seal, portfolio holder for leisure and culture at South Somerset District Council, said: “Chard is the second biggest town in South Somerset and there are a lot of individuals and clubs already involved in sport and recreation.

“These councillors have come together to try and secure a bright future for sport in the town.

“While some issues facing sports clubs may be need to be addressed in the longer term, several realistic and achievable short term goals have already been identified for delivery in the next three years.”

Councillors Amanda Broom, Jenny Kenton, Garry Shortland, Jason Baker and mayor of Chard Cllr Dave Bulmer are the members of the group.

Lynda Pincombe, community health and leisure manager at South Somerset District Council, said: “These are potentially exciting times for sport and leisure in Chard and the action group are determined to harness the enthusiasm of local sports clubs and individuals to deliver improved sports facilities for the town.

“To ensure that plans continue to move forwards the group will meet each quarter to review actions and monitor progress.
