YELLOW weather warnings have been issued for the south west today with heavy rain set to take over this afternoon.

The yellow weather warning, which is in place from 9am until 6pm today, is due to strong gales predicted throughout the day.

"Southwesterly winds will increase later on this morning," Met Office said.

"Gusts of 50 mph are likely inland whilst gusts of 60 mph will affect some exposed coasts in the west and south.

"Winds will will gradually ease from the west this afternoon. Please be aware of the risk of localised disruption to travel."

In their south west summary, the Met Office said: "Cloudy, with showers for most before rain pushes into northern parts later, turning heavy on any hills.

"It will be windy across the region but especially along coasts and over higher ground. Feeling mild."

The maximum temperature is set to reach around 14°C, before falling to a minimum of 11°C overnight.

The forecast for tomorrow said: "A cloudy morning with patches of rain and drizzle continuing.

"However, by the afternoon, it will be dry for many with the odd drizzly shower on higher ground.

The temperature tomorrow is set to peak at around 13°C.
