ADVENTUROUS sixth form students from Holyrood Academy recently embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime expedition to Morocco.

The 14 students, all in Year 12 and 13 at the school, spent 10 days in the African county, including three in the village of Imsker.

Jacob Whitefield, head boy at Holyrood, said: “Students had the enviable opportunity to experience and learn about the culture of Morocco in the Marrakech markets, but even more so from the locals in the outer-city villages.

“They were also subjected to some amazing landscapes and views as they hiked through the Atlas Mountains and camel-trekked through the Sahara Desert.”

While in Imsker, the students helped with community projects such as painting and plastering.

While there, they also organised an Imsker vs Holyrood football match.

Jacob added: “The whole experience has left a lot for the students to think about, with all of them saying how they’d recommend the trip to anyone who had the opportunity.”
