YEOVIL MP Marcus Fysh will officially open a new classroom at Neroche Primary School to signify a 'magnificent seven' for the school.

The school has had a summer makeover and on top of a £100,000 investment from Somerset County Council in new windows and doors, the governing body at the Broadway school has funded its expansion to create a seventh classroom.

The new Year Two teaching classroom – which will be unveiled by MP Mr Fysh on Friday, September 4 – includes a new cloakroom and toilet facilities for the children.

Neroche Community Primary School now has single aged year groups from reception class through to Year 6, and is able to offer class sizes that average just 26 across the school. The building expansion has also seen an increase in staffing at the school.

Chairman of the school governors, David Pugh, added: “In addition to our 'Outstanding' Ofsted status, our results are amongst the highest in the county and this recognition and growing reputation is attracting children from far and wide to our school.

“As governors of the school it is our duty to ensure the school’s facilities are the best they can be so that our excellent teaching staff can ensure every child achieves to the best of their potential.”

Headteacher Connel Boyle added: “Our school site, with two playgrounds and large sports field are the most generous that I have ever had in a school. The open spaces our children enjoy are a real strength of our school and add to the children’s positive experiences.

“With our seventh class we are now able to meet local demand for our school and I'm delighted that our local villages and Ilminster communities have recognised the work we have been doing for our children, and are applying to our school in ever increasing numbers.”

In 2012 when Mr Boyle joined the school as headteacher, numbers at the school were just 132, whereas 184 pupils have enrolled at the school for this September.
