Southern League Division One S&W

Bridgwater Town 1, Banbury United 4

A DISAPPOINTING performance saw Bridgwater Town slump to a third successive league defeat at home to Banbury on Saturday.

The Robins sit second from bottom in the division after three goals in 30 first-half minutes all but sealed their fate before the interval.

Reeko Best pulled one back for Town on then hour mark, but Banbury had the final say with a fourth in injury time.

Bridgwater started brightly and went close through Joe Bushin and Josh White, before Banbury took the lead on 19 minutes courtesy of Leam Howards.

Howards exploited a gap in the Town defence before slotting past Jake Viney in the Bridgwater goal.

Zach McEachran added the second 11 minutes later after exchanging passes with Howards – and they made it three on the stroke of half-time, as Viney lost his grip on a spinning ball and Howards fired home from close range.

After the break, McNab rattled the crossbar from 20 yards as a rejuvenated Bridgwater looked to claw their way back into the game – and they soon pulled a goal back through Reeko Best, who took advantage of a loose ball with a pinpoint finish.

Harry Horton forced a smart save as Town upped the ante, but Carl Tappin’s late overhead kick sealed the deal for Banbury and condemned Paul West’s side to a third straight defeat.

They travel to Cinderford Town tonight (Tuesday, 7.45pm) before making the trip to basement side Bashley on Saturday.

Town: Viney, Thomas (Gazzard 3), O’Sullivan, Mountford, Mullens, White, Best, Horton, McNab, Bushin, Wadham (Ryder 58).
