BRIDGWATER Cricket Club completed a superb double at the County Ground on Sunday by lifting both the SCB Major and Intermediate Cups.

The 1st XI beat Lansdown by 16 runs thanks to three wickets from Daniel van der Berg, while the second XI cruised to a six-wicket victory over North Petherton, with Liam Kitch scoring 71.

Bridgwater 1st XI made a brisk start with Steve Davis (21) and Andy Hallaran (14) putting on 42 for the first wicket in six overs.

Aggressive knocks by Mitch Windsor (32) and Chris Gange (41no) saw Bridgwater reach 146-4 off their 20 overs, a very competitive score given the slowness of the pitch.

In reply Lansdown got off to a steady start until two superb run outs from George Bartlett and Chris Skidmore and an excellent caught and bowled from Chris Singleton put the brakes on.

The aggressive Tom Hankins (56) got his side up to the required rate, until a man of the match bowling performance from Danny van der Berg (3-13 off four overs) again slowed them up, as Lansdown finished on 130-7.

Pethy reached a very competitive 145-7 off their allotment against Bridgwater 2nd XI, with the aggressive Owen Irish (63), Koot Pinaar (23) and Tom Williams (22) providing the bulk of their runs in the face of an excellent spell from Ian Higgins (4-20) and wickets for Todd Barrett, Scott Clapp and Kyron Devitt.

Despite losing two quick wickets, Liam Kitch and Ally Witts (22) rebuilt the innings before the latter departed with the score on 52.

John Hill (49no) joined Kitch and the pair proceeded to build a match winning stand of 90 with watchful defence and aggressive shots.

Despite a spirited fielding display the North Petherton bowlers just couldn't breakthrough, as Kitch's superb 71 earned him the man of the match award as he was out just three runs short of victory, which was sealed with a powerful straight six from Hill.
