THERE was not a dry eye in the house during the annual leavers’ assembly at Winsham Primary School where parents, staff, volunteers and pupils all gathered to celebrate the school year and say goodbye to teacher David Mitchell and the Year Six pupils.

The pupils led wonderful tributes during their tenure, sang songs, celebrated their last academic year’s work and what they are looking forward to when they return next academic year.

The Year Six leavers Adin, Alfie, Jack, Lucy-Ann, and Vikki received gifts of a book of memories, a dictionary and a poetry book.

Afterwards they shared refreshments with their families and reminisced about their time at Winsham Primary School. Not only were they presented with gifts from the school but also from the Parish vicar Tim Price gave the pupils a helpful book about moving up to secondary school. Pupils ended their last day of term with a water-fight with staff and parents.

Teacher David Mitchell has left the school after three years to go back to his first love – music.

“I would like to thank everybody involved with Winsham Primary School for making me feel so welcome over the last three years that I have been here,” he said.

“It has been great working with such a close and hardworking team of people and I have enjoyed getting to know all the children and seeing them move through the school.

“I would like to thank everyone for my leaving gifts and I wish everyone very best wishes for the future.”
