AN ORGANISATION which helps people with dementia in Somerset has had its funds boosted thanks to a donation from the Santander Foundation.

The £4,400 means Reminiscence Learning can deliver a diverse and exciting programme of weekly reminiscence activities throughout the year.

They say the sessions will benefit those with dementia and their carers.

The Santander Foundation offers grants to UK registered charities for projects which help disadvantaged people in local communities.

Fiona Mahoney, CEO at Reminiscence Learning said: “We are thrilled to receive the funding from Santander to enable us to deliver this exciting project”

"The grant will allow us to reach 150 plus older people through the year in the Wellington area, as well as making the links with other generations.

"Friendships will be forged and mutual support will make it sustainable.

"The aim of the group is to create regular, fun, interactive and stimulating sessions to reduce isolation and loneliness – 1 in 3 people with dementia live alone and 62% say they are lonely.

Steve Talbot at Santander’s Taunton branch added: “The Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes throughout the UK.

"Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community it serves and we are delighted to be supporting Reminiscence Learning, and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
