ENMORE Park A inflicted a first defeat of the season on local rivals Minehead in the Avalan League.

There were wins for Bremner and Tompkins, Thorogood and Coleman - with a excellent birdie for Thorogood on 11 and 15 – and one on 17 for Coleman.

Manley and Ashton also won, with Paddy and Tew halved.

In the Senior Team Challenge, 23 teams competed for the Bob Burton Cup on Tuesday.

It was a close affair with team ‘Long and Short of it’ clinching it on the back nine with 81 points.

The team was made of the the in-form Kevin Lewis, Dave Capron and Terry Hogan.

The ‘Strawbies’, led by Nigel Strawbridge lost out on the back nine even with Nigel's hole-in-one on the 12th.

Jess Lawrence and Barry Webster made up the team.

The Club Night format was best two scores to count, with double points for the player using the yellow ball.

This meant scoring would be considerably higher if the ball was not lost.

Adrian Downes was infamous on the day as he managed to lose it on his first tee shot.

Leading the way with 115 points was the trio of D Read, H Neal and R Neal.

They were four points ahead of R Pritchard, P Hawkins and R Rossiter who finished in second, one point ahead of the Captain, D Richards and M Rossiter.

This week also saw the President's Putter take place for the men and ladies.

In Division One, two golfers managed to break the 70 barrier tied on nett 69.

After a back nine countback, it was Jack Webber-Cadby who took top spot with Tim Ramsay finishing runner-up.

In third place was Gwyn Griffiths, one shot further back on nett 70.

Division Two saw the best score of the day with Paul White running away with the honours after carding a nett 67. Four shots behind the leader was Mark Saxton in second, with Barrie Webster a further shot back in third.
