SAM Poole was at his destructive best for Lympsham as they thrashed Glastonbury 2nd XI by six wickets in Division Three of the Somerset Cricket League.

Poole ransacked the Glastonbury line-up to return remarkable figures of 5-3 from 6.5 overs, including five maidens, to help bowl the home side out for just 40.

The hosts’ innings lasted just 26.5 overs, with Poole, Matt Mitchell (2-18) and Adam Micklewright (2-3) all in the wickets.

In reply, Lympsham lost four early wickets to give Glastonbury a glimmer of hope - but Tom Gooding (12no) and Matt Mitchell (10no) eased their side to victory inside 10 overs, to ensure a very early finish.

Elsewhere in the Division, five wickets from CJ Organ wasn’t enough to earn Huntspill and District a third win of the season, as they went down by two wickets to Broadway and Horton from the penultimate ball of the match.

Organ took 5-35 from 11 overs as Huntspill set about defending 245-5 – but a century from H Dunn (121) and 48 from L Watkins fired Broadway to victory.

Earlier, Sam Lillycrop scored 67 at the top of the Huntspill order, while Tom Garner (46), CJ Organ (36no) and Matt Counsell (35) also contributed to an imposing Huntspill total.

But Dunn led the way for the visitors with a brilliant century to condemn Huntspill to a tenth defeat of the season.

They remain second from bottom in Division Three.

In Division Four, Wedmore slumped to a 159-run defeat at Fitzhead, as they were rolled for 94 in reply to 253-9.

Only three players – B Halford (21), M Boley (19) and M Lee (11) - made it into double figures for Wedmore, who were bowled out in 26.5 overs.

With the ball, I Harris (3-55), C Major (2-29), J Burgess (2-59) and M Boley (1-45) were all the wickets for Wedmore – but contributions from C Shapland (31), D Burton (29no) and H Graydon (26) fired Fitzhead to a very competitive looking total.

And so it proved, with Wedmore falling a long way short of troubling the hosts.

Wembdon Academy beat Lympsham 2nd XI by two runs in a nail-biting encounter in Division 8N.

Wembdon batted first and scored 201-5 thanks to 46 from R Hayward – and with the ball, P Tilley (3-67) and M Syvret were the pick of the bowlers to seal a dramatic win for Wembdon.

On the Lympsham side, R Simpson scored an unbeaten 59 and A Ferns added 44 – while with the ball, A Russ (2-43) was the pick of the attack.

In Division 9NW, East Huntspill 2nd XI overcame local rivals Huntspill and District 2nd XI by five wickets.

Batting first, Huntspill and District scored 166-9, of which M Roper scored 56 and S Cavill, 42.

H Dare (4-28), P Spellman (3-27), M Bowerman (1-31) and W Hand (1-16) were all in the wickets for Easts.

In reply, Easts’ openers D West (28) and W Hand (63) set a solid foundation with a 50-run partnership, before L Waldock (31) continued the good work.

There was then a minor collapse, as J Picton (0) and M Bowerman (0) both fell without scoring, but Rob Pomeroy saw his side to victory with a composed 20 not out.
