POTATO supplier Branston has donated a total of £4,000 to two worthy causes in the local area.

Staff at Branston, based at Seavington near Ilminster, presented a £3,500 cheque to Phil Edge, the chief executive officer of Brainwave towards child sponsorship.

This will help Brainwave to improve mobility communication skills and learning potential through a range of educational and physical therapies.

Branston’s sponsor money will also help to provide children with personal therapy treatment programmes and the equipment they need to carry it out and ongoing support.

A donation was also made to the Seavington Playing Field Association which is holding a summer event to celebrate 40 years of the village playing field and the fifth anniversary of the opening of its community shop and café.

Branston donated £500 to the cause in order to help towards the costs of the summer event which is due to take place at the end of July.

There will be a whole week of activities ending in a Field Day – a community event and picnic to take place in the first week of August.

Branston’s general manager Ian Wait said: “I am delighted to support both of these charities.”

“The Seavington playing field and village shop is very close to our factory and we like to have IAN Wait, second left, presents Marion Bennett, Dennis Smith and Pauline Parsons with a £500 cheque both good relationships with our neighbours and to offer our support to the local community.

“Brainwave is a charity with which we have had a long association and it is great to continue this with our recent donation.”
