PUPILS of all ages from schools in the Crewkerne and Ilminster area took part in a special maths filming day at Wadham School.

Staff from across the partnership of schools recently collaborated on a new calculations policy to ensure consistency in delivering mathematics and the filming day was the next step to provide pupils support with improving their numeracy skills.

Children as young as six were filmed anonymously, showing how to perform different calculations, ably assisted by students from Wadham’s Upper School.

They also took part in a special Maths Circus led by the Sixth Form students. The film clips will be compiled to produce one online learning resource for all schools in the area which can be used in school or when doing homework.

The event was organised by head of maths at Wadham, Caren Forsey, who said: “This has been the culmination of a much larger piece of work developing a calculations policy for the Partnership.

“All schools have been involved in compiling a really valuable piece of work which will ensure pupils receive consistent support in their maths development from five to 18 years across the Crewkerne and Ilminster Area. All the students have been fantastic.”

Schools Partnership coordinator, Rob Treacher, hopes the resource - which will be available through the Partnership’s Facebook page - will provide extra help when children are working in school and at home on maths questions.

“Crewkerne and Ilminster Partnership schools are working more and more closely together to ensure pupils receive the best support throughout their schooling in this area,” he said.
