AN unbeaten century from Andy Hall proved to be in vain, as Lympsham 2s fell short at Spaxton in Division 8N of the Somerset Cricket League.

Hall scored 115 not out for the hosts as they set off in pursuit of an imposing 299-6 – but it wasn’t enough for Lympsham and they eventually fell 44 runs short.

Earlier, cousins Tom Bellinger and Adam Richards scored their maiden centuries for Spaxton.

Opening the batting, Bellinger scored 118 one day before his 15th birthday – while Richards, batting at number three, scored an unbeaten 104.

The pair then followed up their fine batting performances, with impressive bowling displays.

Richards claimed 2-77, while Bellinger bowled 12 economical overs for just 33 runs.

In Division 8S, East Huntspill 2s slipped to a seven-run defeat at the hands of Leigh-on-Mendip.

Chasing 180 to win, Easts were all out for 172, with A Harding (65) and D West (44) top scoring.

H Dare (3-55) and K Watts (2-25) were the pick of the Easts’ attack – while Leigh were indebted to the all-round performance of D Vassalli.

He scored 63 not out batting at number ten to resurrect the innings, before taking 4-25 with the ball from 7.4 overs.

A Brownlow (3-18) also impressed with the ball for Leigh.

In Division 9SE, Wedmore 2s were comfortably beaten by Watchet 2s, losing out by 99 runs.

C Curtin (6-73) and P Whittaker (3-43) were in the wickets for Wedmore, but they couldn’t prevent the visitors amassing 250 batting first.

In reply, Wedmore could only manage 151, mainly thanks to the efforts of Whittaker, who scored 51.

R Gamlin chipped in with 43 at the top of the order, while J Gamlin added an unbeaten 23 lower down – but it wasn’t anywhere near enough for Wedmore, who crumbled to 151 all out in the 39th over.

In other results, Bridgwater Sports edged to a five-run win over Belvedere 2s, thanks to 3-34 from R Gillard – and Wembdon Academy crashed to a five-wicket defeat at Wells 2nds after being bowled out for just 86.

In Division 7, North Petherton 2nds cruised to a nine-wicket win at Middlezoy 2nds – and Wembdon Wyverns suffered an eight-wicket defeat at home to Taunton Deane Crusaders, despite an unbeaten 64 from K.Hicks.
