SINGER Russell Watson is heading to Somerset to perform a special concert with the Yeovilton Military Wives Choir next month.

The renowned classical vocalist will be joined by the choir on stage at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil on April 14.

Russell has always been a strong supporter of unsigned local artists and choirs, especially after being a judge on the BBC prime time show Last Choir Standing.

He enjoyed being part of the show immensely and, as a result, expressed his wishes to have a local choir accompany him on his Up Close & Personal tour of 53 UK dates.

Russell said: “I love being accompanied by choirs and the energy and excitement they bring.

“I am really looking forward to this tour and feel a local choir will be the perfect addition to the evening.”

The Yeovilton Military Wives Choir formed in September 2012 as a result of the outstanding success of the original Military Wives Choirs from Chivenor and Plymouth, made famous Gareth Malone.

The Choir now has close to 50 members who meet weekly in Ilchester to have fun, rehearse together and provide mutual support as they deal with the challenges of Service life.

The members of the Yeovilton Military Wives Choir are all looking forward to taking part in this wonderful event and feel honoured to have been chosen to be one of the choirs that Russell sings with on his tour.
