STAFF at Chard’s Co-Op store have asked motorists to be more considerate when parking in the nearby car park.

Cars blocking the delivery bay recently caused delays for deliveries at the Chard and Ilminster stores.

Jean Turner, from the store, said: “Please can we, the staff of Chard Co-op, highlight the problems we are having on Sundays when the public park in our loading area and on the road and pavements beside it.

“Our deliveries are unable to come through. On Sunday, I spent most of my shift stopping cars from parking inconsiderably.

“The lorry arrived and just managed to get into our car park with great difficulty without taking the bonnet off the car that had parked on the pavement.

“After much effort, he had to resign to the fact that he just had to wait. He waited a disgusting one hour, which in turn made the delivery late at our Ilminster branch, so that was two Co-op stores affected by inconsiderate parking.

“This is the second time that this has happened – the first time, the lorry couldn’t get past Essex Close as the cars were parked on both sides of the narrow road.”
