THERE’S still time to help decide when to let everyone know everything that is great about Somerset.
Votes have been rolling in as organisers look for a date to hold the first ever Somerset Day – and there’s still time to have your say on what will become an annual celebration.
You can choose between:
*May 11 – the date in 878 when Alfred the Great gathered all the people of Somerset to march against and defeat the invading Danish army;
*May 19 – commemorating St Dunstan, who was born in the county, was England’s most popular saint and who was Archbishop of Canterbury;
*July 6 – remembering the Battle of Sedgemoor in 1685, the last battle on English soil.
A Passion for Somerset – which aims to ensure the county becomes a leading location for business enterprise and innovation – is organising the special day, supported by Visit Somerset, TauntonForward, leading businesses and local authorities.
You have until Friday (January 16) to vote.
Once a date has been set, people and organisations across Somerset will be asked to come up with ideas for events, while a dinner dance will be staged to bring people together.
