MORE than 30 firearms were handed into police in Avon and Somerset during the first week of a fortnight amnesty.
The event, which police are calling a weapons “surrender”, has seen 32 firearms handed in at police stations across the force area, including pistols, revolvers and air rifles, along with ammunition.
Knives are also being accepted as part of the surrender, which ends on Sunday.
The nearest police station to the Chard and Ilminster area where people can hand in weapons is Yeovil (8am-8pm each day).
