TRIBUTE was paid to those who lost their lives in conflicts during Remembrance events in the Chard and Ilminster area on Sunday.

This year is the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, 70 years since the D-Day Landings and the year Britain ended its combat role in Afghanistan after 13 years of fighting.

Minster Church in Ilminster was packed for its annual Civic Service of Remembrance and a parade was held through the town.

In Chard, the annual parade set off from outside the Guildhall. A special guest was Harald Spitzer, head of the Chard link to Helmstedt, the twin town in Germany.

More than 200 people from the eight parishes attended the service in Broadway for the Isle Valley Benefice.

Visitors were then invited to Neroche Primary School for refreshments and the chance to see the work children had done to remember the fallen.
