THE manager of a shop in Chard has been left shaken up after a man held a knife to him during an attempted robbery.

The drama unfolded when the culprit went into the One Stop shop in Avishayes Road at about 10.22am yesterday morning (October 22) and stood in the doorway.

He produced a knife and demanded staff hand over money but when staff refused he left the store.

Speaking to the News, Tony Emson, shift manager, said it was his colleague, Matt, the manager, who bore the brunt of the attack.

He said: “Matt was the one who the guy went at – he was a bit shaken up but he’s not too bad.

“The guy came in and propped the door open with some baskets.

“Matt was standing by the ATM and the man got a knife out and shouted “get the money out of the till”.

“Matt told him he was not going to get him any money and then the guy left – I think it was all a bit of a blur.”

Police say the culprit was white, wearing dark clothing, and his face was concealed except for his eyes and the bridge of his nose.

Investigating officer Det Con Chris Hawkins is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw a man running from the store, to come forward.

If you can help, please call DC Chris Hawkins via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101, quoting log number 281 of 22 October.
