ONE in ten three year olds in Chard and Ilminster could have tooth decay, figures show.
Some 9.6% of children aged three in Somerset examined in their nursery, children’s centre or playgroup had tooth decay.
Public Health England found that children affected had an average of three decayed teeth.
Professor Debra Lapthorne, from the county’s Public Health England centre, said: “Thankfully, tooth decay in children can be prevented by following a healthy lifestyle – by parents and carers reducing the amount of sugary foods and drinks they give their children, and supporting them to brush their teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, especially just before bedtime.”
