A MAN could be facing jail after pleading guilty to a hit-and-run incident which killed young Chard cyclist Jake Gilmore.

Raymond Isherwood, 53, of Bennett Street, Bath, admitted all charges relating to the death of the 19-year-old.

He appeared at Bristol Crown Court and admitted causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, perverting the course of justice and cultivation of cannabis.

Former Holyrood Academy student Jake suffered head injuries when he was knocked from his bike in Midland Bridge Road, Bath, at around 9.30pm on Saturday, November 16, last year.

He was taken to the Royal United Hospital but later died.

Jake had been a member of 2381 squadron Ilminster Air Training Corps and was a member of 1st Chard Wheelers cycling club for about four years.

Following his death, Jake’s parents Toby and Sue paid tribute to their son. They said their lives changed that day but they “would cherish the fabulous memories of our time with him”.

A memorial cycle ride was held around Bath for Jake, who worked as a barman in the city. Dozens of cyclists attended the ride in his memory and flowers and candles were laid at the incident scene.

A ghost bike was installed on Midland Bridge in tribute to Jake and is still there.

Holyrood Academy described Jake as a superb young man with a bright future.

It added: “He was enormously popular with other students and with staff.

“He was a very sociable person – always in the thick of events and gatherings – and got involved in a huge range of activities and had lots of interests, from playing in a band to being in the Army Training Cadets.”

Raymond Isherwood will be sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday, September 10.
