A FUNDRAISER from Chard has raised £300 for the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton – by collecting 5p coins.
Frank Long, 82, of Vicarage Close, said he has raised about £6,000 over the years for the SURE campaign to help fund specialist equipment for people with cancer.
Frank, who suffered prostate cancer, and friends from Chard and Tatworth, including his daughter Margaret Cox and her friends at work; Di Nicholls from Good Companions of Tatworth Church; Knights of the Round Table at Chard Conservative Club and others, raised the money in 5p coins over the last 12 months.
He said: “I realised a lot could be done with more equipment, so that is why I like to raise the money.
“If everybody in Chard gave 5p it would make a tremendous difference and if anyone wants to give their 5ps to the Beacon Centre I am still collecting them at my home.”
