A FILM-MAKER born and bred in Crewkerne has written and presented a DVD showcasing the delights of his beloved county.

Henry Buckton, 57, who went to Wadham Comprehensive, has teamed up with Bristol film studio 1st-Take to produce Discovering Somerset Volume One, following the company’s Discovering Dorset series.

He said: “I’ve written quite a few books about Somerset, and made a film about the Second World War in the county, so they thought it was a great idea to team up.”

The film series sees him travel all over the county and interview local people.

In volume one, North Somerset is the focus, with the short film featuring everything from ancient hill forts and long barrows, medieval castles and historic battlefields, to the delights of Cheddar and the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Henry is now looking forward to throwing some light on his birthplace.

“We look at food and drink, culture and customs, so in that respect it’s very much a tourist guide,” he added.

“But it’s also a real eye-opener for locals because it’s about discovering what’s on your doorstep.

“When we look at Chard and Crewkerne, we’ll focus on things such as carnival, the cider mills at Dowlish Wake and Punkie night in Crewkerne.

“It’s really nice to just concentrate on Somerset because it’s where I’ve grown up, and I’ve got a passion for all the things going on here.”
